Kilwa SesameTech Ventures (KSV)

Kilwa SesameTech Ventures (KSV)

Project Overview

Kilwa SesameTech Ventures (KSV) is a proposed agricultural initiative aimed at establishing a large-scale farming operation in Kilwa, South Tanzania. The project focuses on cultivating sesame and other compatible field crops across an extensive area of 20,000 hectares. This venture is initiated in response to the demand from local stakeholders, particularly WMI COMPANY Ltd., and aims to enhance both local food security and foreign currency earnings through crop exports.

Feasibility Study Findings

The feasibility study conducted by Greenerix in late September 2024 yielded promising results regarding the economic viability of the project. The key findings include:

Capital Investment:

The estimated capital required for the establishment of the farm is approximately $20 million. This investment will cover infrastructure development, equipment procurement, and initial operational costs.

Revenue Projections:

The project is projected to generate a Net Present Value (NPV) of $43 million, indicating a strong potential for profitability over time. This revenue will primarily stem from sesame exports, which are expected to be in high demand in international markets.

Economic Impact:

By focusing on sesame production, the project aims to contribute significantly to Tanzania’s economy by generating foreign currency through exports while also addressing local food needs. This dual approach supports national goals related to food security and economic growth.

Project Scalability

The design of the Kilwa SesameTech Ventures project allows for scalability. The 20,000-hectare farm can be viewed as a single “module” that can be replicated across similar agricultural lands within Tanzania. This modular approach not only facilitates easier management but also enables expansion based on market demand and resource availability.

Conclusion

In summary, the Kilwa SesameTech Ventures project represents a strategic opportunity for agricultural development in Tanzania. With substantial initial investment and promising revenue forecasts, it stands to benefit both local communities and the national economy through enhanced agricultural output and export capabilities.
